Valentine's Day is next Sunday!

It's fun (and sort of crazy!) that Superbowl 50 is in our backyard, but don't forget that Valentine's Day next weekend! What are your plans? 

Our Chocolate Hearts is the perfect dessert to split after your Valentine's Day meal. Inspired by our most popular cake, our Chocolate on Chocolate, we dressed it up with a drizzle of raspberry icing.

Another Valentine's Day exclusive is our mini heart-shaped cream puffs. Cute for an office party or just you favorite co-workers!

If you're in a sharing mood, we'll also be baking our Raspberry Sandwiches, Half Dips and Gingerbread cookies in heart shapes as well. Please pre-order, especially if you are thinking about large quantities!

Other great options include our Strawberry Mousse (available in indiivdual and 6" heart sizes) and Tiramisu Cheesecake.

Finally, if you have yet to try our Sweetheart Cake, you must try it sometime this month as it is a February exclusive. We take our famous Chocolate on Chocolate recipe and add raspbery jam in the middle, and decorate it with a Kirsch Cream Cheese frosting instead. Available in all sizes, including cupcakes!

Please Pre-Order Passover Cakes and Cookies

Don't forget to put your orders in for Passover! It is coming up next Friday, April 3rd. Last year we only received a handful of orders in advance, but had tons of you calling the morning of for cakes and cookies! Beause we didn't have notice, we ended up running out of items. We'd hate to turn you away so please, pre-order by calling in two days in advance - by Wednesday. Remember we bake everything fresh (never frozen!) so it's extremely hard for us to gauge how many of what we should be baking on Friday without pre-orders. We thank you in advance!

Even if you don't celebrate the holiday, I still encourage you to try the Passover-exclusive products because they are really that good. My favorite is the Strawberry Banana Cream - so good that I wish we had the cake year round. And of course, our Almond Macaroons. 

The Strawberry Banana Cream is so full of flavor and very moist because the sponge itself is baked with fresh bananas. Then we fill the layers with fresh whipped cream, fresh strawberries and bananas. 

The Chocolate Orange Passover cake can be prepared two ways. Either way this cake is gluten-free*, made instead with ground almonds and potato starch. We can prepare it as a torte, with just fresh fruit places on top, or as a cream cake where we cut layers, fill it and decorated with whipped cream all around.

In addition to Coconut Macaroons, we will also be baking Almond Macaroons: both almond and chocolate flavored. If you love almonds, these are not to miss!

Valentine's Day is only THREE days away! Make sure your pre-order your sweetheart's favorite chocolate goodies before Friday to have them guaranteed on Saturday!

Our Valentine's Day exclusive Chocolate Hearts are the most popular and will be the first to go on Saturday. It's basically your (and ours!) favorite chocolate cake, covered in chocolate icing, in the shape of the heart. Traditional, and elegant in it's simplicity.

If you're looking for something more special, try our Sweetheart Cakes. They are a February-exclusive and it's so good we get requests to do this cake year-round. Our famous chocolate cake with raspberry filling, decorated with our special Kirsch cream cheese frosting. Have you ever had Kirsch flavored cake icing? It might be our very best icing! See for yourself, but make sure it's before the end of February!

We're also making mini Cream Puff Hearts! Buy one, buy a dozen - hand them out to your co-workers and they will love you.

 

If your loved one isn't necessarily a chocolate fan, we will also be making Strawberry Mousse in individual and 6" heart sizes. Our Tiramisu Cheesecake is also available in a 6" heart shape. Both the Strawberry Mouse and Tiramisu Cheesecake are extremely limited in quantity, so don't wait to place your order if these are the items you're interested in.

And who needs chocolate candies when we have fresh baked cookies? We're making chocolate chip cookies in heart shapes, about 5" large, and can inscribe whatever you like. Kiss Me, I'm yours?

Lastly, we are making our Raspberry Sandwich and Half Dip cookies in heart shapes in two sizes: mini and regular. We'll also have Gingerbread available all week long!

Remember, to guarantee your items on Saturday, please place your order no later than Friday, before 2pm is preferred. Don't wait until the last minute because trust us, everyone else will and you might not get what your Valentine wants. Call us to preorder, it's easy!

Thanksgiving Dessert 2014: Don't Wait Until the Last Minute

November has flown by but don't forget that Thanksgiving is just a few days away. Please do both you and me a favor by placing your order in advance! We don't want to turn you away on Wednesday (or Thursday at our Santa Clara and Fremont stores, see our holiday hours at the end of this post) but we will definitely run out before days end! Reason being we simply don't know how much of which pies or cakes to make without you telling us what you want -- so please, pre-order no later than Tuesday, November 25.

Also don't forget that we were listed among the top-two bakeries for Pumpkin Pies last year. Baked fresh with 100% pumpkin puree and no added preservatives or artificial flavors, San Jose Mercury News gave us their stamp of approval.

But if Pumpkin Pie isn't your thing, we have tons of other options for you. We bake fresh Apple, Cherry, Pecan, Banana Cream and Chocolate Cream pies in the same manner (NO artificial colors, artificial flavors or preservatives).

We also have a couple Thanksgiving exclusive items like our Cranberry muffins and cake loaves. Baked with fresh cranberries, the muffins or loaf slices will make an excellent breakfast or snack while you're baking your turkey! Or, skip the whole turkey process and order our Turkey Package for pick up at our Santa Clara or Fremont stores (quantities limited, last day to order is Monday!).

Other great breakfast items for your family include Hot Cross Buns, Panettone, Walnut/Almond Sticky Buns or our Apple/Cherry Strudels.

July 4th Weekend - Yes, We're Open!

All of our stores will be open until 5pm on Friday, July 4th. Before you fire up those BBQ grills, stop by our Rivermark/Santa Clara or Fremont locations for HOLIDAY BRUNCH! Breakfast usually ends at 10:30am on weekdays but since it's a holiday, we will extend breakfast hours until 3pm. After 3pm, we'll remain open until 5pm for anyone who needs to pick up desserts for your July 4th parties. (Please note: Palo Alto will not be serving lunch)

Here are some dessert ideas, inspired by Independence Day:

Cupcakes with the American flag! These are our "white" cupcakes pictured above but we can replicate it on any cupcake.

These July-4th-inspired Trifle Cups only show up once a year and they are my favorite variation. Orange Almond cake, fresh blueberries, vanilla custard and fresh strawberries. Pre-order these if you want them because they'll be gone!

Lastly, ask us to decorate your sheet cakes like the American Flag, made with fresh raspberries and blueberries, for a small fee. The cake shown above is the Banana Custard Cream but the White Strawberry Cream is very popular this time of year (with fresh strawberries!) as is our Very Berry Trifle Cake (seasonal). 

As always, please place your orders at least 2-days in advance to guarantee most items. Hope everyone has a relaxing and safe 3-day weekend!

Show Your Mom You Heart Her!

Mother's Day is THIS Sunday and we have plenty of options for you to celebrate with her!

First, we'll be serving brunch at our Santa Clara/Rivermark and Fremont/Pacific Commons locations until 3pm. Normally we have a first-come, first-serve policy by our Fremont store is taking reservations for parties over 6 for Mother's Day. Fremont will also be serving $1.99 MIMOSAS, so come in and drink up! Please call the store directly to make reservations: 510-252-1098.

Whether you will be eating brunch (or dinner!) with us or not, make sure you pre-order your dessert. We will have some extras on hand, but to guarantee the cake you want make sure you place your order at least two-days in advance. Here are my favorites and recommendations for moms:

Tiramisu Cheesecake - by far my mother's favorite cake! Perfect balance of Tiramisu and our rich, dense cheesecake

Or better yet, our Tiramisu Cheesecake in a shape of a heart!

Chocolate Hearts - originally made exclusively for Valentine's Day but what better way to show your mom you heart her?

Banana Custard Cream (pictured unfinished above): light but full of flavor, perfect for the summer!

Passover, Easter and a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

Hello blogosphere! Just wanted to jump on here to make a few annoucements because the 140 character limit on Twitter was, well, limiting!

Firstly, don't forget that Easter Sunday is THIS Sunday! Please be sure to pre-order your Hot Cross Buns because we will run out. There is no minimum for an order so even if you need just six, please call it in by Friday so we can reserve them for you. We never want to turn any customers away, but we really do at least two-days to be able to guanantee your items.

Secondly, we are still accepting Passover orders through April 22. Even if you don't observe the Jewish holiday, I urge everyone to still give them a try. If you are a fan of almonds, marzipan or almond paste, you will love our Almond Macaroons. The main ingredient is - yup, you guessed it - premium almond paste.  If you also love chocolate, you might like our Chocolate Macaroons even better. All of a macaroons (Almond, Chocolate and our daily Coconut) are gluten-free!

Actually the other two cakes we offer for Passover are also made with almonds. The Chocolate Orange Torte and Chocolate Orange Cream is completely flourless so it relies pretty heavily on ground almonds, making this cake a little dry naturally. On the flipside, our Passover Strawberry Banana Cream is quite moist (and my favorite!) from the fresh bananas we use in the batter. Filled with fresh strawberries and fresh bananas, I wish we baked this cake year-round!

Lastly, a huge announcement! This Friday we will be debuting our first gluten-free cake! If you follow this blog or our Twitter, you might have seen a few sneak-peak photos of it but after several weeks of tweaking and perfecting, we think this cake is ready for you! Are you ready for it?

Using a gluten-free all-purpose flour and real blueberries, we were able to make a sponge that was airy and tasty. The best part? We didn't have to break our no artificial colors or artificial flavors rule to make this cake! It's still a beautiful blue sponge but it is 100% naturally colored.

We wanted to keep the cake light and simple. We sprinkled the blueberry sponge with a little bit of real blueberry juice and filled it with fresh whipped cream and chopped up blueberries. Decorated with whipped cream and some fresh fruit, the cake is perfect for the summer! 

We had been very hesitant to experiment with gluten-free products because we felt it was quite difficult to make some gluten-free and natural that tasted delicious - not good, not acceptable but delicious! We're so happy to say we proved ourselves wrong and hope you agree.

This cake will be in our stores starting this Friday, available to purchase by the slice. We'll also be giving away a limited supply of samples right before lunch if you would like to stop by for a taste. Let us know what you think! The cake will be available for ordering starting this Friday too, just in time for Easter. Please note because this is such a special cake, we will ONLY bake-to-order and require a minimum of 2-days notice. Hope you love it as much as we do!

Don't forget about our Passover selection!

Last year I wrote about my first time trying our Passover Strawberry Banana Cream cake and though it's made with Matzo meal and potato starch instead of traditional wheat flour, in keeping with Passover traditions, the cake was delicious and full of flavor! I can't wait until I can have another slice and thankfully, I don't have to wait much longer.

With the beginning of Passover just around the weekend, don't forget to check out our Passover page on the website to find details on our products. We are offering a Strawberry Banana Cream, a Chocolate Orange Torte (no cream, pictured below), a Chocolate Orange Cream and three macaroon variations: Almond, Chocolate and Coconut!

We'll try to have extras on hand but, as always, it's always best to place an order 2-days in advance if you know you'll be needing something. Remember, Passover starts on Monday, April 14!
